Welcome to Rochdale where we are in year one of our residency. Watch out for the Den festival in 2024!
Our latest residency is in Rochdale, where we are starting to get to know the community and find out more about what they are passionate about. Working in partnership with Cartwheel Arts and Rochdale Borough Council, we will be focusing our work in Rochdale Town Centre, Middleton and Heywood.
We have made links with Deeplish Community Centre, Awakening Minds and Soul Sisters and are looking forward to developing these further. We have connected with the Rochdale Borough Culture Network and started plans to connect with schools and young people in the area.
If you are an organisation from the area and want to get involved and find out more about our the projects we’ll be developing in the area, please get in touch with us on the details below.

Being an Ambassador
What is Local Exchange?
Each year the Royal Exchange Theatre will begin a new four-year creative residency in and area of Greater Manchester, developing close relationships with local partners. Alongside these partnerships we’ll also recruit a group of Local Ambassadors, people who are passionate about the place they live in and excited by everything that arts and culture have to offer.
What is an Ambassador?

- An Ambassador will be part of a team of residents from your area who works closely with Royal Exchange staff, artists and directors to shape the projects that happen in your area across the residency.
- No previous need for experience or knowledge of theatre necessary!
What does an Ambassador do?
- Join monthly meetings with other ambassadors to have conversations about the changes you would like to see in your local area.
- Receive an allocation of tickets to invite groups and residents local to Rochdale to see Royal Exchange productions.
- Have exclusive access to shows at our theatre and are involved in lots of decision making regarding the work that is delivered during our residency with them.
