DREAM PROJECT 2023, delivered in partnership with the Wai Yin Society, is specially for older East Asian people. Beginning with a series of creative taster sessions, a new group was formed who since May, have met weekly to develop FOUR SEASONS with lead artist Nadia Anim.
Meet the resilient Plum Blossom, Hidden Beauty Orchid, Flexible Bamboo, and Harmonious Chrysanthemum. The flower tiles in a Mah-jong set might be the prettiest in the collection. These four nobles are here to tell you a story about change, family and Mah-jong.
The DREAM PROJECT is a new way of connecting with older people to make visible the lives of people who are often under-represented in our Theatres.
The DREAM PROJECT 2022 involved older African and African-Caribbean people who created DOMINOES & DAHLIAS (+OWARE!) which subsequently toured to The Den (RET’s mobile theatre space), Storyhouse in Chester and the National Trust Castlefield Viaduct. Many of the participants went on to join the the Royal Exchange Theatre Elders Company and we continue to support members of the group as they become an independent company.
